Cholesterol is a waxy substance found in your blood. Your body needs cholesterol to build healthy cells, but high levels of cholesterol can increase your risk of heart disease. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the number one leading cause of death in Americans. High Cholesterol can be prevented by maintaining a healthy weight, being active and limiting foods that are high in saturated fats.
